As you can probably tell, I am basically obsessed with doing my nails lately. I have shared some awesome polish finds and now I am going to share with you what I do to keep my nails looking decent (I say "decent" because I still feel they can look better, but I just started fully keeping them up again.)
- Start off by filing your nails in the shape you like. To help with nail splitting, make sure you file in one direction at a time only. Not back and forth. I like to do mine square, but round the edges. I find this helps with nail polish chipping.
- Using a very fine, gentle buffer, buff your entire nail and around the tips to smooth anything the file didn't get.
- Put cuticle oil or even olive oil on, and use a cuticle pusher to push your cuticles back. Be gentle. (Note: I do not clip my cuticles, because it is proven that they will grow back faster, but if you want to, feel free. This is just my preference).
- Wash your hands with soap and water. If you have a nail brush, use that to scrub off any excess residue left from the oil and buffing. Make sure you dry your nails completely. http://www.amazon.com/Tweezerman-Dual-Surface-Nail-Brush/dp/B000JLFFGE/ref=sr_1_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1373925685&sr=1-1&keywords=nail+brush
- Apply a base coat (I only do this step when I am applying a dark or glitter nail polish for staining purposes. I like CND Stickey Base Coat). http://www.amazon.com/CND-Stickey-Base-Coat-0-33/dp/B007NPWZPI/ref=sr_1_2?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1373925540&sr=1-2&keywords=cnd+stickey+base+coat
- Apply the polish color of your choice (2 coats).
- ALWAYS apply a top coat or else you just wasted your time. (I like Seche Vite Fast Drying or CND Glossy). http://www.amazon.com/Seche-Vite-Fast-Nail-Ounce/dp/B00150LT40
- Let dry, then apply cuticle oil (I have been trying out Solar Oil). http://www.amazon.com/CND-Essential-Solar-Cuticle-Conditioner/dp/B0037MIMLW/ref=sr_1_3?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1373925567&sr=1-3&keywords=solar+oil
